I am obsessed.

Childish Gambino’s “These Girls” feat. Garfunkel and Oates. Literally, three of my favorite comedic presences are responsible for this song. I just can’t get over it.

Gimme Shelter | The Rolling Stones

As much as I love the Stones, this song would be nothing without Merry Clayton. She makes this song:

“At about 2:59 into the song, Clayton’s voice cracks twice from the strain of her powerful singing; once during the second refrain, on the word ‘shot’ from the last line, and then again during the first line of the third and final refrain, on the word ‘murder’, after which Jagger can be heard saying ‘Whoo!’ in response to Clayton’s emotional delivery. She suffered a miscarriage upon returning home, apparently due to the strain involved in reaching the highest notes.”

It still gives me chills every time I listen to this song.

Listening to this song is never going to be the same. Shudder. In simultaneously the best and worst possible ways. Amazing.

WHY SAVE PBS?
On Saturday, February 19th, the House of Representatives voted 235-189 to pass a continuing resolution that eliminates funding for public broadcasting. I put together this handy chart on why PBS is worth saving. Find out how you can fight back at 170 Million Americans.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I am Creative Director for PBS KIDS but a life-long supporter/watcher of PBS ;)

The idea that public broadcasting might not be around for my kids (okay, i don’t want those. My friends’ kids) is a sad one. We’ve got to save PBS!

This is my favorite version of this song. One of my best and oldest friends is definitely in it.

Dude, thanks for this. So much better than the original, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a sucker for a good cover song. Girl accordionist and super interesting percussion. I MUST HAVE AN MP3 OF THIS IN MY LIFE.

Ted Leo has long been a staple on any playlist or mixtape i make. I’m not a huge show-goer these days, but I’ve thought about seeing him live many a time.

Tomorrow night, he’s playing a show in my hometown and one of my good friends from high school, Dan Coffman, is opening for him. I didn’t find out about this until a few minutes ago, and of course, I have to work.

I can always keep my fingers crossed that Dan, a fan of The Pig’s chef from his last restaurant, is able to convince Ted that The Pig is the place to be on Wednesday nights in Riverside. A girl can dream, right? Until then, I’ll be lurking on TL’s youtube page alllllll day. Lovelovelove. And congrats, Dan. I’m so happy for you. :)

3. Fashionable work jeans (I live there now. May as well attempt to look nice)

4. Face makeup that actually matches my skin tone (self explanatory purchase)

5. Beer

Life recap in 103 sentences and fragments

Was unemployed. Got a little fat. Lost some. Drank. Was single. No dating. Hung out with friends. 4th of July pool drunk. 23 hour birthday party drunk. Midnight Show. I like LA. Dated a saxophone player. Too awkward. Why is there no kissing? Decided that dating is the worst. Never went to the beach. Drank a lot of Moscato wine. I’m a girl. Made more friends in LA. Was weird to other people. Fixed things. Most things. I like friends. Midnight Show again. Reconnected with an ex. Ex moved to Scotland. Scotland is the worst. No, he’s the worst. No he’s not. I am. Stop. Got over it. Thought about dating. Decided against it. Enrolled in improv 101 at UCB. I was terrible. I got better. Still not great. Drove to LA. Over and over again. Fell in love. Not with a person. With the city. Decided. Moving to LA 09/2011. More driving to LA. Midnight Show. New crush? Scared of spiders. No thanks. DICE GAMES! Halloween party. Halloween party. Welcome, Sinners. Halloween party. Whoa vomit. Midnight show again. New crush? Shh. Too scared to meet him. Got a job. Salted Pig. Opens 12/2010. Plan on eating my way to the top. Drinking a lot. Not a lot. A fun amount. Love friends at home. Love friends in LA. Freaked out about improv show. Went to another party. Learned how to tie a tie. 60’s girl groups. LA girls are tall. Dance. Talk. Smile. A lot. Met crush. Talk. Laugh. Kiss. Fun. Smile. Improv show. Nightmares about bombing. Nightmares about dying. Show day. Isn’t bad. Miss classmates. IO West. WTF? Dislike. Too scared to talk to crush. Probably should quell crush in case it doesn’t work out. Right? Really don’t want to. Sidenote: difference between finding people attractive and crushes. I should clarify in the future. Love LA friends. Love home friends. I am hungry. Now it’s today.

on tonight’s agenda:
>re-discovering my favorite band from high school (and quite possibly of all-time)>slightly too much alcohol>more than slightly too much, if i’m being honest
it could be worse. i could be in helsinki in winter.
